Chapter 11: BACK ON TRACK

"WITH EVERY ADVANCE, THE SCIENCE OF MAN GAINS STRENGTH AND DIRECTION." Stuart Chase, author of The Tyranny of Words, Guides to Straight Thinking and The Proper Study of Mankind

Judge had more and less power than he knew. His actual power was in the timing of his entry into the group and his conspicuous failure to declare himself an OJG, an OJI or an OJU. He had to be one of the three, but by leaving the question open, he had almost all of us courting his vote for our point of view. Since he was less concerned with who committed the murders than he was in how we communicated with each other, he could negotiate to bring us to his point of view.

Hhhana knew more than anybody in the group about the things Judge was lecturing us about, but Peggy, Trille and Pat couldn’t have been as ignorant as he seemed to think they were.

I was no slouch, either. I’d heard Martin Luther King Jr. speak in person when I was old enough to get the message and Judge was a snot-nosed kid. I’d read a few books on linguistics, semantics and the art of listening, with plenty of practical experience to go with the reading. Judge was a seven-year-old boy when I read The Tyranny of Words, my introduction to the study of how words affect behavior. He was eight when I read Guides to Straight Thinking, and The Proper Study of Mankind, my introduction to ten common fallacies and the "culture concept" in the study of human evolution. When I was in my senior year of high school and Judge was in the fourth grade of elementary school, Clyde Klukhohn’s Mirrors of Man, and Gordon W. Allport’s The Nature of Prejudice, were both dog-eared additions to my "science of man" book collection. That collection included books on "Negro History" that weren’t taught in school.

With more knowledge than most about logic, semantics, linguistics, psychology, history and cultural anthropology, my hardest lessons to learn were about the limits of what that knowledge could accomplish. Against a tide of popular opinion, driven by common visions of reality and opinion leaders like Lion, Tiger and Judge, the answer came up "zero" every time. Judge knew only enough to be used and to believe he was doing his own thinking. If the Lions and Tigers of the world were in charge, it was only because the Judges of the world extended their reach with the Neville Chamberlain approach to conflict resolution.

Our Judge had already gummed up the OJI and OJU investigation of the Bundy murders by siding, in effect, with the OJG’s. To close the door on the question of race as a motive for murder and framing, was to leave things where they were as far as the judgment against O.J. was concerned. That translated into a judgment against O.J.’s youngest children and in favor of a nazi’s ability to influence the investigation, prosecution and public image of a black celebrity who, as it turns out, had a better alibi than he or his lawyers realized.

Hi guys. Well another day and the insanity continues. If I see one more TV program with Petrocelli, I’m going to barf. The plaintiffs are not in this for the money, but after the 10 days are up Gelblum is going to OJ’s home to pick up the furniture, pictures on the wall etc. What a bunch of BS. They don’t care about the money but they are going to go to the house in which OJ’s kids live and take the furniture etc.

I have to believe someone (OJ’s legal beagles?) will come up with some way to stop them. OJ says this whole thing is "NOT OVER" I tend to agree with him. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I was speaking to my husband this morning about MF and just realized what else the initials could stand for.... I know that’s gross but it struck me as funny and I thought, "right on." We’re having a bit of a snowstorm here today. It was supposed to be a few flurries. But then it is still February up here in the cold country. Have to expect anything, just like in the OJ case. Enough for now. Just to keep in touch. Keep the faith. —Pat (Crowe)

Hey Pat — It sure puts the lie to it, doesn’t it? Haven’t seen Petro today, and plan to try to avoid it. Did see F. Lee this morning on the Today Show. He’s a smart guy. Going to have to go back to work tomorrow, can’t avoid it. Need to get some money made. Been out for almost 2 weeks with a terrible case of flu or something that acts like it. Seems the only answer to this thing is to find a killer. I like the MF (by the way, I spotted the humor right away, so appropriate) theory, but somebody is going to have to dig up some information.

Bailey is still working on it with an investigator. Hope they can come up with something. I know it’s hard after all this time, but nothing’s impossible. Truth usually wins out. Keep your eyes and ears open. —Hhhana

Hi, guys, I couldn’t connect since yesterday afternoon, and boy, was that frustrating. I had like a 200 e-mail mess waiting. I am just flabbergasted at the new verdict. I heard that the plaintiffs can start collecting immediately. Surely that isn’t correct. I lost a lawsuit in a civil court case for $1200, and it took awhile before the person was able to access my bank account. I did have to provide discoveries and financial info, but I was able to close my account and the person died. She only won the suit because I was in the emergency room at the hospital at the time and couldn’t contact the court.

The point is, when you have minor dependents, you have right to more assets than if you don’t...The plaintiffs have a few days to START REQUESTING MORE INFORMATION FROM OJ, but OJ still can appeal, at least the amount of the verdict which is excessive even for California. Then, hopefully, when Fujifoofoo comes to his senses and reduces it, OJ can then post bond on a far lesser amount and appeal the whole verdict on the grounds:

1. Bias on the part of judge.

2. Allowing in lie detector.

3. Hearsay rules not followed (shelter woman) and Nicole’s so-called diary (who keeps a diary in a safe? I mean, a diary is something you write in most days and you keep it near you to write in, not in a safe. Obviously Nicole was planning to use it to get more money out of OJ and pretend he had violated his letter not to hit Nicole ever again).

4. All black potential jurors dismissed and only black juror dismissed (and also jury tampering by the only black juror by LADA, and possible jury tampering by alternate juror who claimed system rigged in selection of alt.)

5. New information of FBI malfeasance, lab results tampered with or not done properly as well as "shoe expert" not acting properly.

6. Gag order not complied with, many witnesses violated gag order, Ron Shipp, Vannatter, Lange, Fred, Denise, media persons who, while not witnesses, also violated spirit of gag order.

7. As in the Sam Shepard case, OJ not able to get a fair trial due to excessive negative publicity.

8. Extreme hostility to defendant by police, DA, witnesses, court system, court employees.

9. Police misconduct and tampering and sloppiness.

10. Police perjury by several officers, etc. —Trille

Subj: Your e-mail

Judge— I’m the only one here who can’t print e-mail messages; I have to try to remember all the good points you bring to us. By the way, have you made it to posting on the CTV threads yet? They are up a bit, then back down a bit. Hopefully, everything will be OK tonight and everybody can hop on board. Glad you took a little time to read some of the past posts. They tell a lot.

Again, I don’t think OJ Simpson killed anyone, but I do have a problem with some of the evidence. There are still questions for me. I find it amazing that those who are convinced he is a killer, don’t seem to have any problems with the conduct of the police officers or, for that matter, the state. It seems it should have been obvious to all that there were things that were not only improper, but suspicious in their actions.

However, that aside, you’re absolutely correct, OJ took on the legal system and was found not guilty in one of the most unpopular verdicts of all time. I believe the verdict was the correct one. I am also bothered by those who are always so quick to point out that he was not found innocent, but instead, was only found not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

After having shared the "kiss and slap" method with you, I now want to talk about the "good for the goose, good for the gander" theory. Of course, we know jurors only have two choices, guilty or not guilty. Innocent is not an option. If those who are so quick to point out the difference were charged with a crime they did not commit, and were acquitted, they would be quick to say they were found to be innocent. But, it’s not good enough for OJ Simpson? No, no, I don’t think so.

I would love to talk about the 2 verdicts, but I’ll have to save it for part 2. I want to just make a point about the whispers in the wind. As soon as the media reported the murders, immediately little whispers of domestic discord started to surface. Again, the media fanned the flames, stories proved, and unproved, brought before the public to vilify OJ. It sold stories and papers, increased TV ratings, and the feeding frenzy started. I watched OJ go from hero to zero overnight. Now, less than zero after this civil finding of responsibility. A judge who told both OJ and his attorneys he thought he was guilty, seating a jury that expressed during voire dire that they believed he was probably guilty (at least 60% expressed this opinion), limiting the evidence and on and on, and on.

Now the California legislature will be considering another Simpson law to assure the Browns custody of the children. Judge, I know I got way afield with all of this. I think the bottom line is, come to the threads; your opinions will be challenged, but truth is truth and I believe even if it doesn’t prevail, it needs to be said. Good to hear from you. —Hhhana

Hi guys— Wasn’t that something about Fred Goldman. He would trade his punitive damage award for a signed confession from O.J. Even if he was guilty, he’d be crazy to sign one as he’d still owe a hell of a lot of money. OJ of course said why would he sign one when he’s not guilty of anything. This is the weirdest case. Looks like Geraldo will be into the JonBenet Ramsey case now. That’s what he started with tonight. Oh, I forgot- he also had the jury foreman from the punitive phase on. I don’t like to bash the jury but this guy seems like he’s one pickle short of a jar. Geraldo also had a clip on (I think from his morning show) of Denise Brown and a female juror. The juror took one look at Denise and started to cry. Geraldo said it was the most touching thing he’d ever seen. Yeah sure. Well enough for now —Pat (Crowe).

Hi guys— I don’t watch the news anymore; I will read the papers and just skip the OJ articles. I don’t see that even finding the real killers will stop these people. I don’t think they really care WHO KILLED NICOLE AND RON, THEY STILL WANT TO HURT OJ, NO MATTER WHAT THE TRUTH IS. Of course, we care, but even if the killer(s) confessed right now, it wouldn’t stop the plaintiffs from taking everything away from OJ. I wonder if he declared bankruptcy, it would at least slow it down, then the attorneys would get first go at the proceeds, that is OJ’s earthly goods. OJ does, if fact, still owe the criminal trial lawyers.

One thing this case has done, is to turn a lot of Jews against OJ. Fred is responsible for this, and that is a terrible shame because, historically, Jews have been liberal socially conscious people who at least at first helped the Civil Rights Movement. But when you watch the tabloid shows, most of the most rabid haters, Geraldo, Grodin, and many of the lawyers and "experts" that come on the shows are Jews. I think they have been brainwashed, too.

Dershowitz told in his book that he received the most hate mail and threats in his entire career, even or esp. from his own synagogue. And, of course, that is what turned Shapiro against OJ as well, the fact that people turned against him wherever he went, and Shapiro had no experience with hate. Johnny Cochran is used to hate, so are Scheck and Neufeld, but for a celebrity-lover like Shapiro, it was more than he could take.

What this case has done to society, that is the hate was there already, but this case has allowed it to take over. People feel it is politically correct to hate OJ and, by association, all blacks except for right-wing sellouts like Clarence Thomas and that guy Watts who is a Republican House member. I am reading Carl Rowan’s new book The Coming Race War and it is fabulous. Also he "tells it like it is" and mentions names of hate mongers like Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Gordon Liddy, Oliver North, etc. But it is a joy to read because it corroborates everything I feel. He also has a section on the OJ case that is one of the best explanation I have seen. —Trille
