Just the other day I heard a vet. of one of the previous wars tell how when they got off the boat that the Red Cross was there with coffee, but if you did not have money to pay for it, you did not get any. He went on to say that the Salvation Army never charged for anything. So now is the time to drop a bit in those kettles. -------------------------------------------------- My daughter, an RN and her boss volunteered to man a shelter during Katrina. My daughter opens the first shelter in our town during every huricane and runs it till the Red Cross appears after the storm. She has gone other places in the state to relieve the Red Cross in shelters that have been open for a while. So she definately is a quite experienced. They would not let her go even though there way was going to be paid by the local health dept or they where going to pay it themselves. The reason they said that she could not go was that they did not get their paper work in on time. I think it was a day late. They only decided to go when they found out how badly they needed nurses in the shelters.
