Rose,

The writer Goldberg was talking about seems to be Linda Tripp. Let me emphasise, SEEMS TO BE.

It’s hard to say because the information on Goldberg and Tripp is not consistent. The only article I found that tells when Goldberg and Tripp first met says that Tripp contacted Goldberg shortly after Foster’s death in ’93 to pitch a book about Clinton White House scandals in general. Vincent Foster’s death was among the things she wanted to write about but Goldberg was more interested in sex. One report was that she rewrote Tripp’s proposal to be more salacious but Regnery wouldn’t buy it. I wonder how many of these reports came from Goldberg herself.

Supposedly Tripp’s first book proposal wasn’t good enough for Goldberg but they became friends and Tripp continued try to sell Goldberg on a book about her experiences in the Clinton White House in ’94 (the year in question) and ’95. That’s where the story of Goldberg rewriting Tripp’s proposal comes in, ’94 or ’95.

I don’t now why Goldberg would say that she was working with an author on a Foster book in ’94 when sex was her main focus with Tripp. Maybe she meant to say ’95 or ’96 when some people reported that Tripp made a pitch to her about a Foster book (a month after Tripp started “making friends” with Monica Lewinsky?).

You could be right, Rose. I just don’t know. Wherever Fuhrman is involved here are too many things about who met whom and when and why and how that don’t add up. --Jasper
