The movie you’re thinking of is Same Time, Next Year (’78). And I do believe that you are right about Fuhrman modeling his affair with Laura Hart around that movie, which was taken from a very successful play. The big difference was that the affair in the movie was between two people who were married to others. For ALL of the period that Fuhrman claimed that he was romantically involved with Laura Hart, both of them were single.
That claim doesn’t square with Fuhrman’s other claim that his wife knew about the affair before he “confessed it” because of love letters from Laura Hart she had read. If Mark and Laura were single, what was there to confess? And how did Caroline Fuhrman get her hands on the letters? I suspect that the affair continued after Caroline became Mrs. Fuhrman and Laura Hart became Mrs. McKinny. This is one reason I believe Fuhrman used sex as a strategic tool and why his sexual remarks about Captain York may not have been mere badmouthing. It could be a clue to his knowledge about her past sexual conduct that he could use as leverage to get what he wanted from her and Judge Ito AFTER the murders. York did not become a Captain (the highest ranking female in the LAPD along with Captain Dial) until the late ‘80s or early ’90s.
I didn’t say that Fuhrman and Laura Heart met only in 1985 and again in ’94. I said that MOST of the tapes were made in ’85 and they got together primarily for other reasons after that. I didn’t mean that they made no more tapes until ’84. I only wanted to say that Fuhrman's reference to how York made it “to the top” could only have been made after she became a Captain and the date on THAT tape would tell us more about why he said what he did. If it was made after the murders it is more likely that he realized the tapes would eventually leak out (too many people knew about them) and chose his words on the later tapes (the ones made after he PLANNED the killings and carried them out) accordingly. –Jasper
