Jeez… Now we’ve got Howard Weitzman as well as Pellicano, Judge Ito and his wife Peggy York mixed up in the Heidi case AND the O.J. case and Fuhrman’s partner Brad Roberts and Fuhrman’s PI Pellicano mixed up in the Don Simpson case.
And wouldn’t you like to know “specifically” what Mark Fuhrman said on the Laura Hart McKinny tapes about Peggy York? Maybe Fuhrman’s reference to her “sucking and fucking her way to the top” wasn’t what made Ito come so close to tears. Maybe it was what Fuhrman said before that nasty little comment. Fuhrman was, after all, referring to Captain York’s job as the ranking officer in the LAPD’s Internal Affairs Department.
On the other hand, Ito said, “IN THIS FIELD, WE KNOW THAT THINGS ARE SAID ABOUT PEOPLE ALL THE TIME THAT ARE NOT -- NOT ACCURATE.” Why did he stumble? Why didn’t he just say, not true? Sounds like lawyer talk to me.
Following Fuhrman’s career I got the distinct impression that he used sex to advance himself He could have been projecting onto York his own methods of getting what he wanted from people to further his ambitions but through his many contacts he might have been speaking from knowledge that he used to win the fight he had with her in ’86 about a transfer when she was Lieutenant York. Maybe it was something she did when she was Sgt. York. Who knows? Maybe Mark Fuhrman did — and Lance Ito.
As you suggested, Mrs. Ito (a.k.a. Captain York) had to have been involved in the Heidi Fleiss case and her husband had to know it. That could only mean that Ito didn’t expect anyone else to make the connection between Heidi and “Nicole’s cop” when he made his ruling on Heidi’s “little black book” and when he agreed to sit on the O.J. murder trial.
Most of the McKinny tapes were made in 1985, before Fuhrman’s run-in with LIEUTENANT York. She made the other tapes with Fuhrman after the Bundy murders when York rose to the top as a CAPTAIN. In other words, if Fuhrman did have the goods on York he was perfectly positioned to blackmail the judge without having to say a word. When you think about it, revelation of the tapes and the “disgrace” that went with it were inevitable did more than anything else to make Fuhrman a star. Could that have been his plan all along? I wouldn’t put it past him. –Jasper
