If one thing about Fuhrman comes through loud and clear it’s that he was well connected. Pellicano, with everyone he knew and everything he could do was only one of many.
Fuhrman had a friend in the city attorney’s office (remember Miss Marple’s observation about the release of the 911 tapes held by the city attorney). He had a friend who knew O.J. (Ron Shipp) and also happened to be a forgery expert a spouse abuse instructor at the police academy and a security consultant who hired cops for moonlighting gigs. He had a friend who knew Ron Goldman (the hair dresser in Brentwood). He had friends in the crime lab (he didn’t name them). The West LA homicide coordinator (Ron Philips) was a friend of his. So was the former Chief of Police, Daryl Gates.
Fuhrman got the ear an unnamed female reporter early in the murder investigation and he played basketball with Geraldo Rivera during the civil trial. He got Primetime Live’s Dianne Sawyer to write a blurb on the back cover of his first book. He got a former FBI polygraph examiner, Paul Minor, to give him a “special” polygraph test of Minor’s own design without pear review of the test or the examiner’s conclusions (Iago, chapter 23).
In Fuhrman’s his job in narcotics he knew “snitches” with varies connections to the drug traded and possibly some people in the DEA. As a delegate to the Police Protective League (a union officer) he had friends throughout the department and plenty of clout in getting friends (like Ron Phillips and Brad Roberts) assigned to posts he waned them to be in. When you start tracing Fuhrman’s career path and Marcia Clark’s you see them converging at cop bars before the murder where both of them liked to hang out. Fuhrman’s relationship with Marcia’s assistant Sherry Lewis is also suspect.
Then you have Fuhrman’s Hollywood contacts through his association with Laura Hart and his eventual friendship with Dominick Dunn and Lucian Goldberg. Somewhere along the way he had his photo taken with ex-President Nixon, he got involved in the impeachment of President Clinton. He wrote a book that got a nephew of Ethel Kennedy arrested, tried and convicted of murder – with ZERO evidence that he did it and a key witness he talked to who died of a drug overdose before the trial.
Fuhrman’s friends in the media now outnumber his critics by a huge margin. –Jasper
