We have been told (heard or read) that she had dual citizenship but a friend of mine who is now an American citizen told me that Germany isn't big on dual citizenships and that it really doesn't work that way.
Also---she was the daughter of an American citizen which I think automatically made her an American citizen due to her birth--even if it was in Germany.
We found it odd that she had German citizenship papers in her purse at all.
