Charlie, In Raging Heart, Juditha takes about her somber mood as though she had a premonition of Nicole’s death. Now, thanks to Nancy’s observation about the kid and the ice cream, you have to consider the possibility that somebody said or did that put a damper on things. Maybe a combination of things brought Juditha down. The pukiest words I’ve heard about that dinner was what Denise said on an A&E documentary as she fought back tears. She said that the last words she ever uttered to Nicole were, “I love you, Nic.” Now I’m thinking that the last words might have been something like, “Go to hell!” This brings us back to Nicole’s plans for the rest of the evening and Denise’s court date the next morning. What we’ve got here is a major conflict of interests. I’ll bet that the whole family was on Nicole’s case for not letting Denise stay over for the night. It meant that Lou or one of Denise’s sisters would have to get up early to drive her to the city. Big hassle! How could they not have discussed it? And how could it have not ended badly? I’m also thinking that Judi’s story about noticing that her glasses were missing before she left Mezzaluna (not the search part) might have been true. A little spat about the practical arrangements for Denise’s court date would have certainly trumped everybody’s concern about the glasses. If Denise took them, which I believe she did, she would not have wanted her mother to know they were missing until the family was on the road. Another thing… When I first heard about the driving time dispute, I didn’t think much of it because I thought that the call from to the Mezzaluna could have been made with a cell phone. I’ve never owned a cell phone but people I know who did said that a cell phone would not have the same number and appear on the same bill as a call made from home. But it looked to me as though Denies and Judi were going out of their way to hide a cell phone. Dominique normally had a cell phone in her Jeep. It wasn’t in the Jeep that night. It seemed likely that Judi would have one, too, because of her business. Maybe Judi’s glasses weren’t the only things she discovered were missing. –Jasper
