It was MF who made such a deal of this "stick" from the get-go. It was one of the things that he said put alarms off in his head at Rockingham--such as the tiny red dot on the Bronco door.
The stick was lying there--no blood on it.
It could have been used as a tool to open something--like certain kinds of gates w/out leaving prints, etc.
They never found where it came for--except for MF's explanation...but you know, after a while, MF's explanations get a little too convenient and a little too cute.
