In "His name is Ron" the Goldmans say that the police did pick up Ron's answering machine tape together with his rolodex. That was all they took, not even the clothes he wore that Clark used so extensively in the trial. I don't think they ever used the info on the tape, possibly because it would have hurt their time line. The first call recorded was at "almost ten" and the last was at "ten twenty". It also makes it look like Ron was not at home at that time, so where was he? Or did he check the messages and ignored them for some reason. One guy called repeatedly, I think his name was Erik and the messages, like you said, sounded rather urgent. It sure makes you wonder.
