And then there are the answering machine tapes from both NIcole and Ron.
I heard a news report about 2 weeks AFTER the murders that the cops retrieved the answering machine tapes from Nicole's phone from the Browns. We never learned if anything was on them or not.
Oh, you say, we would have heard. Really?
NO mention of answering machine tapes from Ron were mentioned in the criminal trial. In Fred and Kim's depo they deny having any or not knowing whether or not the cops took them.
YET in their book that came out after the civil trial, they give the transcripts of answering machine tapes (timed) on Ron's phone.
On one of these his step-mother is questioning Strongly what is happening with the borrowed car and saying if it is true what she has heard about the car (a joke?) she will be very mad.
On another, some guys call Ron the night of the murders because he has not shown up yet and say that if he doesn't show in a few minutes, they will be coming over to his apartment. The timing puts the possibility of these guys coming to the apartment during the hour or so around the murders. Perhaps around the time that he would have had to leave to go to Nicole's condo.
Who are these guys? Did they go to the apartment? Were they ever questioned? Did the cops even know this because they failed to get the answering machine tapes the day they searched Ron's apartment.
Did the Browns turn over all the answering machine tapes and how would the cops know if they didn't?
Would Ron HAVE an answering machine that gave out the times in 94? If not, how did the Goldman's know what time to put the times on the calls? Could they have gotten them from a phone dump? If not timed and dated, how would the Goldman's know that the calls were for the night before for sure? They know that Patty called that day --but if not timed and she recalled the time exactly--how would they know?
Without these tapes, the cops (or anybody else) would not know that Patty was concerned about something she was afraid was being done with Scott's car. She was afraid because the girl was due home the next day and whatever it was needed to be corrected before then.
Did Dr. Ameli stop calling at approx 1030 or so because she knew that Nicole wasn't available to answer or are there messages from her left on that tape after 1030?
And speaking of other things withheld. We did not know til near the end of the trial that a child--Rachel --was allegedly over there earlier in the evening and that the father picking her up, etc. took up about 15 minutes of a very tight timeline.
The timeline--at best---is 900 til 1040. That is only an hour and 40 minutes. YET, there is a 15 minute time with Rachel's father, several other phone calls--perhaps even Dr. Ameli's calls, the 10 minute call that Judy Brown told the world on national tv she had with Nicole after 10pm, and allegedly a 20 minute call with Faye during this time.
Just off the top of my head, that takes up 45 minutes of that time--and there are the Mezz calls and a so-called call from "Mom's best friend" that may or may not be Faye.
I cannot stress enough that Judy did in fact tell the world of a 10 minute call between she and Nicole that took place "later" about the recital and plans for the next day (lunch at 11AM) and other things. This call did not show up on Judy's bill but we don't know about Nicole's.
There is where the puzzle lies. They needed to combine Nicole's and Judy's bills to see a pattern of this last call.
Unless Judy Brown is a Raving Liar--she cried and carried on about this phone call on a national tv show (like 20/20) after the murders--there IS a missing later call between the 2 of them that lasted 10 minutes. She later gave a sworn statement that 9:37 was the last time she talked to her.
Lou Brown spoke of this call and was quoted in the newspaper about it.
He at one point said that when they walked into the house from LA in Dana Point, the phone was ringing and it was Nicole. This, of course, does not jive with them getting home before 937 and making the calls themselves.
Marsha Clark, herself, has said on tv that there was lots of calls going back and forth that night. If no phone bill--how does she know?
And also, remember this--Clark, herself said the Brown's left at 9pm to drive home (approx 75 miles) thru the Grand Jury, the Prelim Hearing and into the trial--only later did they try to change it to 830.
