I’ve been thinking about this since you wrote it. Something in the back of my mind told me you were right but I couldn’t see how that could be true because I don’t have the book. I’ve never had it. I’ve never read it. I’ve never even seen it in a bookstore.
When I woke up this morning it hit me. No, I didn’t read Raging Heart but I did read excerpts from it in a book review like the one on Fuhrman’s Death and Justice.
I recall that I had no interest in the book when it came out because I thought at the time that O.J. was guilty and I didn’t need any more evidence or witness statements to convince me. The same was true with Faye Resnick’s Private Diary. Although some aspect of the prosecution’s case made no sense to me, I thought that those things would be cleared up in the trial. Only after I saw the pictures of the Bronco that I’d read about, after I had seen Mark Fuhrman and heard his testimony did I begin to seriously consider that O.J. had been framed. But the only alternative suspects to O.J. that I could think of did not match any of the suspects offered by the defense. The more I looked at those alternatives the more likely it seemed me that neither the prosecution nor the defense had it right. Like Joe Bosco, I was inclined to believe that “the police” framed a guilty man.
Then I asked the question Sven asked: If O.J. didn’t, who did? Who could have done it?
Only Mark Fuhrman seemed to meet ALL of the essential requirements for committing the murders and orchestrating the frame-up. The obvious flaws in my theory were that he had an alibi and required “too many” people to help him pull it off. You know how that turned out.
This is where my interest in Raging Heart and Private Diary began. But all of the questions I had about them were answered in book reviews, television interviews and the criminal trial transcripts. I’m going to look for those books again. Meanwhile, I would like to know who made the statement about Nicole and the scissors. I think it was Faye Resnick but I don’t know for sure. Can you (or anyone else) nail that one down for me? --Jasper
