In American Tragedy (page 313) Nicole’s cousin Rolf Baur told DA Investigators Thompson and Stevens that Nicole had a lifelong fear of knives:
Thompson… Did you ever have a conversation with Nicole where she mentioned to you about her fear of knives?
Baur… Over the years there was many things that we always talked about. You know, my fear for snakes and her fear for knives.
Thompson…She’d always been afraid of knives?
Baur…Anyways been afraid of them. Anybody with a knife, that just tears her up.
Thompson…Did O.J. know that was her big fear?
Baur…Oh, yeah. Because we were sitting in conversations many times.
Thompson…Did he say anything?
Baur…No, never made a comment about it.
Steven…Did you ever see him tease her about it, as far as actually pulling out a knife or anything like that?
Baur…No, never.
I have a number of questions about this exchange beginning with what we know about O.J. and the murders: O.J. represented the company in Connecticut that made the Swiss Army line of products including an assortment of knives. He said that he sometimes used a knife for hunting, but that he wasn’t into the outdoors as much as Nicole was. Nicole wore a Swiss Army watch and O.J. had a large collection of knives in his home (although he carried around the small one and used the scissors on his knife for trimming nose hairs). He also had an aesthetic appreciation for knives and purchased the German Stiletto at Ross Cutlery just because he liked the way it looked. Unnamed detectives found a butcher knife with the blade pointing toward the edge on the counter in Nicole’s kitchen.
What made Thomson ask Rolf about Nicole’s fear of knifes?
Why did O.J. keep so many knives in his house if he knew about Nicole’s knife phobia?
Why would Nicole put a knife on her kitchen counter – with the blade facing her?
I also read somewhere that Nicole said she feared O.J. would kill her with scissors? Do I have that right? Does anyone remember who said it? --Jasper
