In that same testimony by fuhrman he said that he didn't see Nicole's face. He said she was sitting on the hood of the Mercedes with her head in her hands, crying, and he said he never saw her face. This is not how he describes the incident in his book, so I assume this was fuhrman speak and that somebody in the prosecution was suspicious about his role in the identification of Nicole.
