I found this testimony by Phillips, October 29, civil trial. He says that he asked the Westec people where people were located on the property. "Where somebody was on the property".
A. Yes. I noticed a Westec patrol sign on the property so I called the watch commander at West L.A. station and had them contact Westec and see if they couldn't find out information about whether or not -- whether or not the people were out of town. Where somebody was on the property. Basically if we had another emergency phone number. If someone was not there, we could call somebody else.
However fuhrman's account of the same incident is that HE talked to the second Westec person and got that information:
"Several minutes later, I saw another Westec patrol car driving slowly along Rockingham. I walked toward the car as the driver stopped and got out near the white Bronco. I introduced myself as a detective, altough my badge was in plain sight, and told him we needed to reach someone inside the house. The sergeant informed me that a live-in maid should be there all the time, which I relayed to the other detectives."
It would be interesting to know if the information that fuhrman relayed to the detectives corresponded to the information that Westec had about Rockingham or if he relayed personal knowledge. I don't know how often O.J. updated his status with Westec. Gigi had only worked there for three months and O.J. was away for most of that time. Was Kato's status as house guest reported to Westec? Did they know that Arnelle lived there? Did anybody ask?
I think you are correct that Gigi occupied two rooms. The one in the house for when O.J. was at home, for longer stays away she was more comfortable in the guest house. O.J was away for most of the time after she was hired. Kato's account of where she was staying could be the most accurate. In our house in Chile there was a "maid's room", a crappy little room with a bathroom, off the kitchen. We didn't have a live-in maid, but we traveled a lot, sometimes being away for a couple of months. On those occations the maid stayed in a guest room instead of the maid's room. The little crappy room off the kitchen was still called "the maid's room".
