I had forgotten about the second entrance to the house. Certainly that would have been the door the detectives used the most. They had after all made the family room off the kitchen their head quarters. Which as you say makes it all that more illogical for fuhrman to take Kato out through the front door, just after they discovered the blood drops there. Could be no other reason than to plant an idea in Kato's mind.
