O.J.s broken glass in Chicago is not the problem, no matter how it got broken. Cutting himself accidentally on the glass in Chicago is not the problem. The problem is that he cut himself in the same place where he cut himself in Brentwood the same side of the same finger over the same cut with other little cuts around it. The odds of him accidentally cutting himself at all within an hour or so of when his ex got killed in a bloody attack are extremely high. No matter how high the odds are for one coincidence, common experience tells us that coincidences do happen. But they dont happen in clusters. Thats the problem with Fuhrmans stories. His actions on Bundy and Rockingham are predicated on clusters of coincidence, one cluster after another.
With O.J. you have only one set of back-to-back coincidences. The chances of that are infinitely higher than the chances of dealing yourself two royal flushes in a row in a high stakes poker game. A royal flush is so rare that some professional gamblers have never seen one. When you see a guy deal himself two in a row its time to check his sleeves.
As hard as this may be to imagine, the deliberate cut in Chicago works for O.J. as much as the small blood drops on Rockingham work for him. The small drops on Rockingham say that in spite of the odds against it, he DID cut himself at his home and not on Bundy. The big cut says that he panicked when he heard the news about his wife. It also says that he heard more about it than he or the police admitted. He would not have panicked if he hadnt been surprised to learn about the murders and the blood.
This is a normal response to a suddenly perceived threat. You try to protect yourself. You dont always do the honorable thing at first and you are ashamed to admit it because you think that it makes you less of a human being. The truth is EVERYBODY does it. Its so natural that it is predictable. Othellos wife Desdemona did it when Iago stole a handkerchief that Othello had given her and Othello asked her if she still had it. She was caught in a situation she wasnt expecting and her self-preservation mechanism took over. She did the human thing. She lied. Iago anticipated that she would. It was easy.
Picture yourself at a mall. You see a nice old lady and a man leveling a shotgun at her. You might thrown yourself in front of her and heroically take the blast that was meant for her. Who knows? Now lets say youre having a pleasant chat with the lady when you hear a scream behind you. You turn around and there is a man with a crazed look on his face leveling a shotgun at you. You are now standing in front of the lady. What do you do? You get out of the line of fire. Jasper
