Convert surveillance is essentially the art and science of seeing and hearing without being seen or heard. People do not usually notice parked cars on streets where cares are normally parked unless they have a specific reason to (Neither Park nor Kato noticed O.J.’s Bronco and O.J. didn’t notice Kato’s Nissan). A clean, nondescript, late model car in a muted color parked south of the Rockingham driveway would have attracted no special attention. From that vantage point the driver would have been able to see or hear cars and pedestrians a long time before they could see him.
In the seconds that Shipp would have had to expose himself his risk of being detected was minimal. If he thought that he had been seen during the murders (on the false timeline or the real one) the mission would have been scrubbed. He could have claimed that he was there to see O.J. off and thought that he saw an intruder. If he had been seen after the murders he would have looked like O.J. returning from Bundy. He could have even gotten into the Bronco after the murders and timed his exit so that a pedestrian or a driver at a safe distance would see him (only the witness didn’t want to get involved).
Phillips was my first choice for the Bundy lookout. But too many essential details didn’t match up. Lee’s “parallel line” imprint (I hope you have that picture) is what got me started on my profile of the Bundy lookout if such a person existed. Phillips was the same height as O.J., Vannatter and Lange, an inch shorter than Fuhrman. Therefore he most likely wore shoes in the same size range. If Fuhrman was the killer he needed Phillips to be as clean as possible to vouch for him. He told Phillips not to call him until after 1:00 (incriminating to Fuhrman) and he put Phillips out front with his testimony in the preliminary hearing when he said that Phillips was his partner.
In other words, Fuhrman used Phillips to hide Roberts.
If Fuhrman was the killer he would have done everything he could to hide his partner in crime. If his partner in crime was his partner in investigating the crime he would have done everything he could to hid his investigation partner because the investigation would have been an extension of the crime. If they left incriminating evidence behind they would have to clean it up. If the evidence they intended to leave behind to incriminate O.J. wasn’t enough in light of how things actually worked out, as opposed to what they anticipated, they had to supply it.
Neither Phillips nor Fuhrman could have planted the Rockingham glove. Roberts could have. Phillips could have said that he saw the fingerprint in blood on the gate or the blood on the light switch. He didn’t. The list goes on and on. Where Fuhrman’s partner in the murder/frame-up had to be, Roberts was either unaccounted for or he was there.
If you look closely at Phillips’ testimony you will see that he was not as close to Fuhrman as he or Fuhrman claimed they were. When you read Murder in Brentwood carefully you can see that Brad Roberts was. –Jasper
