Charlie,

I believe that they WERE operating on old information.

Westec had the job of securing O.J.’s property. The property included the guesthouses. If a Westec officer said off the top of his head that a maid was supposed to be livening at the residence, he could only have been talking about Michelle – which means Westec probably knewn where they could expect to find her if she called them. If O.J. didn’t update them on Michelle’s release or Gigi and Kato’s arrival all they would have had to go on was old information.

The “maid’s room” was not where Michelle stayed. When Jason moved out of the last bungalow Michelle moved in. She was living there when Arnelle moved back to Rockingham in ’93. Gigi took Michelle’s place in April 1994 but she went home to her family every night. The only times she stayed overnight at Rockingham was when O.J. went out of town for short periods. That’s why she called O.J. on the day of the murders and asked permission to stay at Knots Berry Farm with her family.

Unfortunately, not all of this information is in the transcripts where I thought it was. I did a search this morning using all the search words and combinations I could think of to find it but all I came up with were the dates in the previous paragraph. The rest of it may be in Killing Time, A Problem of Evidence or American Tragedy. I hope so. If I got it from a TV show or interview (like the close-up photo of the shoes that O.J. wore to the recital or Fuhrman’s “credit card” alibi), it may be difficult to find. I know only that I was mistaken in thinking that Michelle and Gigi’s actual place of residence at Rockingham came from the testimony of Arnelle or Gigi (that should be a great comfort to John).

The trouble with information like this is that you see it in one context that answers a question that may not have been important to you at the time, so when you look for it in a context where it is important your wires get crossed on exactly where you saw it. Until a few months ago, I had no special interest in where Michelle and Gigi stayed at Rockingham. I mostly wanted to know what the last Bungalow looked like so I could put it in my book and then in the animations.

I never found a good enough picture of that area of the estate but I think that I ran across the information about where Michelle and Gigi stayed while I was looking for it. Why do you suppose the defense didn’t nail that down in either trial? Or am I just missing it? –Jasper
