So far the only person he's had trouble "selling his story to" is me, and I kind of doubt he knows I exist.
All the question you ask in this post require speculation. There is no way I can give an answer I can defend with hard evidence.
But one answer is: He just didn't think of it. After al, he also didn't think of the incongruity of reporting both gates closed. He din't bother to move his source of blood drops around to put tailings on them. He kept the Rockinham glove hidden and sealed until the cops showed up, thereby causing it to be questioned due to its wetness.

So maybe he was sloppy. It's just that the police force he was up against was even sloppier.

There is simply no telling where these things wee at the time. Besides, he knw he had a 'head start' on the cops by making that call to Merrin.

While OJ mentioned this wet laundry in his videotape, I missed the most important point: SOMEBODY DID THAT LAUNDRY ON THE MURDER NIGHT. Of THAT there was no doubt.
Well, only four people had access to the laundry room: OJ, Arnelle, Gigi, and Kaelin. OJ knows he didn't do it. Gigi said she didn't do it. Arnelle said she didn't do it. GUESS WHO THAT LEAVES?

MY guess, and it can never be more than a guess, is that Kaelin goet some his his own DNA on the shoes and glove while fighting Goldman. But he knew the gloves were safe to plant because he didn't use THOSE gloves in the crime.
