Jasper, I see where you are coming from but as you might guess--I look at it differently.
That program could have gone on---with someone else doing it. The money wasn't really getting to the children anyway. It went to keep him up and keep him in body guards.
Head Start? The good effects of Head Start are gone by the end of the middle of elementary school. I know. I was there. I was at a school who had Head Start.
And in the case of Berry---the Dems wanted the Black votes. If they were TRULY caring, they would have booted him and put a person in charge who would not have stolen the money and would not have molested the children.
I cared what happened to those children. Some were my former students--with potential to go on and finish high school and maybe go to college. Instead their lives are in tatters and may even be in prison. Some will have emotional and mental problems their whole lives.
I truly fail to see how that where the best and the brightest in the town had their lives wrecked and ruined is the lessor of two evils --just to pretend you have a good program for the young people.
Has you ever thought that things like this are allowed to go in for the sole purpose of Destroying the the chances of the best and the brightest Black children?
I have. Esp. when our Dem mayor Scotty Baesler said he didn't care who he was screwing.
In these days and times, it is getting where someone who works at McDonald's needs a high school diploma. And in some cases, clerks in stores have college degrees and some with master's degrees.
A kid coming up now who does not get that diploma with the real skills--is doomed to a life in the lower poverty levels unless they get very lucky or go back to school later.
And that is the same for ALL colors of children.
Speaking of that--education for white and Asian children in the public schools is no great shakes either. A lot of it has to do with the curriculum and the MANDATED programs and in our state--the state actually mandates the style of teaching and how to set up your classroom--even if it doesn't fit the needs of your students.
Jasper, what frustrated me the most was as an experienced teacher I knew pretty well what worked and did not work as to the methods of teaching. But what I saw in the last 15 years of my teaching--and in particular the last 5 or 6 years were programs that I swear HAD to be designed by people who WAntED minority children to fail. And it wasn't any big conservative group doing it either--it was some of the most well-known and respected Liberal groups (at least by reputation) in the United States.
WE will probably never agree on this but I saw a pattern of keeping the Blacks "needy" by the Dems in order to gain votes. A lot of promises but little follow through.
