Again we are closer than you think. When I say “politician” I do not mean just elected officials. Who elected the Soviet Union’s Josef Stalin to his office?
The “experts” that you talk about – the SAME “liberal” experts who go from state to state imposing their view of educational Utopia on everyone – are politicians that nobody elected. Most people don’t even know who they are. If you look at the GROUPINGS of experts in various fields that everyone in authority calls on to write their polices you can get a better understanding of what I’m talking about.
People like David Hornbeck might call themselves liberals for entree to public officials who THINK they are on the same side or want to promote themselves any way they can, but when you look at what they do you can see what they really are. They are politicians.
In The Invisible Warriors I talked about the experts – the same experts – who gave most Americans their “ultra-Liberal” view of American involvement in Vietnam. The “Arch Conservative” rebuttal corrected some of the errors and filled in some of the blanks but they, too, made critical errors and skipped over critical events that were contrary to the “arch-Conservative” worldview. To get it right you had to read books written before 1965 and articles written in newspapers and periodicals from 1919 (the Treaty of Versailles) to 1986 (when Vietnam united under “ultra-Liberal” rule completed its military conquest of Laos and Cambodia).
I told you about some of the insane things Ford Motor Company did under British leadership. You will read more in Killing the Goose… But you also have to know that much of what crippled Ford and other giant “American” corporations in the ‘90s came from experts – the SAME “conservative” experts.
My Random Factor trilogy is set in the near future. The USA is a totalitarian state and the last glimmer of hope for democracy in North American is Canada. What you see on the surface of the book isn’t necessarily what is happening below the surface just as what is happening to my characters on the surface is not what’s happening below the surface of their world. They don’t even know that every vital aspect of their lives including the choices they think they have as voters are decided by a small group of men inside and outside of government who think they know what is best for everyone.
This is how I saw the future over ten years ago when I began the trilogy. The “arch-Conservatives” are the bad guys only because the country was moving in a conservative direction when I started and most Americans saw themselves as conservatives. Had we been moving in the liberal direction the bad guys would have been the “ultra-Liberals.” If you read closely you can see how bad thing would be if THEY held the balance of power because you know what happened when and where they did hold it. I had to go back and make several changes because too many of the “crazy” things I predicted have already happened. It’s not a prediction if it’s history. I thought I was being so extreme in some cases that I was safe for a few decades. I wasn’t extreme enough. –Jasper
