Jasper,

I get very tired and frustrated at being called a less than compassionate person because I am a Republican. Or that I don't "care" enough.

Or that Republicans in general are this way.

When Ron Berry was arrested and the full story came out---it was the Republicans in the city who spoke out...while the Dems who had covered for him for 30 years were very very quiet.

I was OUTRAGED.

Yes, there are other areas where you will find pedophiles--schools, churches, scouts, etc. but for the most part (almost always unless you are the Catholic Church), when they are discovered, they lose their jobs and/or put in jail. The organization itself cooperates in the prosecution.

THAT's the difference here. After learning of the molesting of children---the city and others ignored it. They let it go on out of some political issues. I fail to see how keeping a Black man in place who is a pedophile helps ANYBODY.

His butt should have been fired and he arrested. They should have put someone else in his place. A person who is NOT a pedophile.

To me the city council members who knew (many victims went to their council members) and the police who knew--should be held RESPONSIBLE.

These city council members put the city in "liability" for the multi-million lawsuit in the works. And we as taxpayers will have to PAY for this despicable behavior.

It wasn't til a Republican DA got into office that this ever went to court. And he pursued it past two hung juries and took it out of the county. The previous Democrat DA's failed to prosecute.

It was NOT bringing a Black man down. And even if it was, he didn't DESERVE any consideration. It was to STOP a Pedophile.

I don't go with the cynical appoarch to this. I think this kind of thing can and should be stopped. And I think the problems in the inner city could and should be corrected. But the folks who live there and Black leaders are going to have to step up to the plate.

It is NOT roving gangs of whites going into the neighborhoods and doing drive by shootings. They are NOT the ones who shoot the young girl sitting on her porch eating candy in Chicago. A great deal of this is Black on Black crime.

Until THIS is FIXED--there won't be much progress.
