Which people are you referring to, Kari? As far as dividing the people, that can only be accomplished with the help of the people. When we fail to properly communicate, the opportunity is lost to better our community of humanity. Because we may not necessarily agree with some philosophy doesn't mean we cannot find some truth that we overlooked and come to compromise.
There really must be some center to it all. Everything is not all the way left or all the way right. We know those types to be dangerous.
