No major religion in the world preaches the mass murder of non-believers. The people who carried out the 911 attacks on the United States were not true Moslems anymore than the Crusaders were true Christians. They are criminals dressed up as true believers doing the work of God.

These guys (and I do mean guys) have narrowed the field of "true believers" to such an extent that only the adherents to their brand of Islam are safe from attack. That's 99.9 percent of the Islamic world at risk from the same criminals who attacked us. I don't think its fair or accurate to call them Moslems regardless of what they call themselves.

The people you mentioned who voiced sympathy for the terrorists or opposition to doing anything to stop them have one thing in common - moral cowardice. You can't have a bully without a coward.

The sympathizers, I'll bet, are overwhelmingly consumed with their own sense moral superiority, like Jane Fonda and her acolytes in the "peace" movement. They can see so well how imperfect our government has always been (as though you and I can't) and in too many ways the cause of legitimate condemnation. They want to believe that if we clean up our act the whole world would be a safer place. You and I know that if we clean up our act the world would be a much better place, but not one bit safer. In their heart of hearts these kind of moral cowards know it, too. A determined asshole can ALWAYS find an excuse to show the world what he really is in the name of a greater good.

I don't have to guess about the moral cowards who believe in doing nothing. I used to be one of them - when I was 14. The ultimate sacrifice for this brand of moral coward is to give up HIS life for HIS beliefs - no matter how many other people lose their freedom or their lives to preserve HIS sense of moral integrity. He will die, but he won't kill. It takes a hell of a lot of moral courage to assume the responsibility of a soldier in war. In this war all of us are soldiers. --Jasper
