Charlie,

Late last week I heard a former three-star general in military intelligence talking about this very thing. You could tell that she was no dummy, nor would you ever get the impression that she was a weakling. She was a high-ranking general in the United States Army and that's just what she sounded like.

To our credit, we don't let the military decide issues of policy for this country. We leave that to the civilian authority. For the past decade we have been treating terrorists acts like law-enforcement issues (gathering evidence to make a case in court) and the military was geared to serve that end for the international law enforcement community. If the mission had been to identify and destroy the enemy, I'm convinced that we (the Free World) would have been well on our way to seeing the end of them by now and the new Hanoi Jane's would be where they belong -- in prison for treason. --Jane
