Our Grief Is Not A Cry For War
Haunting images of horror, pain, disbelief, incomprehension. An ocean of smoke, ash, waves of concrete, metal, flattened cars, ambulances, trucks, desks. Waves of stone and shards of steel washing up narrow streets with the energy force of thousand ton bombs. A rain of corpses and human body parts.
Who could do this?
(New York) A young mother, her four year old still sleepy at home with grandma, stuffs her sweat band into her purse before sitting down. A middle age waiter glances out at the beautiful, crisp blue morning as he cleans a coffee cup and piece of hardening toast from the table. A 70 year old, white-hair tourist grins, giddy from the stomach rush of the elevator A young computer system administrator luxuriates in the lingering warmth of a night of lovemaking. A stern-faced security guard examines passes, seeking a feel of casual authority. A pot bellied, muscular man guides his wheel chair off the elevator, aware of the balance of a briefcase resting across his legs. An electrician picks up a work order for a damaged switch in an office on the 34th floor, momentarily aware of the blood blister on his finger. A trader fantasizes about her year-end bonus.
A blinding jolt and their thoughts and dreams and memories along with their bodies are melted, broken, shredded.
Who could have done this? What was in their brains as they plotted this destruction for years?
•Who is Osama bin Laden Pakistani writer Eqbal Ahmed met Bin Laden in 1986. He reported: "When the Soviet Union intervened in Afghanistan…the U.S. saw a God-sent opportunity to mobilize one billion Muslims against what Reagan called the Evil Empire". Money started pouring in. CIA agents starting going all over the Muslim world recruiting people to fight in the great jihad. Bin Laden was one of the early prize recruits... Bin Laden went around recruiting people for the jihad against communism.". Ronald Regan called the Afghan Mujahadeen "The moral equivalent of our Founding Fathers." Was Bin Laden behind this? Does it matter?
