I don't know what took our leaders so long to understand that the war we are facing now has been proceeding on one side for decades and civilization itself was at stake. A one-sided war is not a struggle: it's a cakewalk for the people who are waging it.
The idea that there are "good" choices and "bad" choices in situations like these is not only wrong, it's dangerous. There are no good choices to be made with unreasonable people willing to do ANYTHING to ANYONE to get what they want. War is a hideous choice. But it beats the hell out of uncontested slaughter.
