Jean,

The enemy is the enemy.

Anyone who targets innocent people for mass murder or attack of any kind on their freedom or their lives is the enemy. You can't deal with them in sequence. You have to do it simultaneously, persistently and across the board.

I am no different from anyone else in caring more about my friends and relatives than "humanity" in the abstract. At this moment the hurricane that might hit you is honestly much bigger in my mind than the plains that did hit the WTC on Tuesday. But that does not mean I have to put civilization itself second to you or anyone else I personally care about.

In the end you are going to find that the last item on the long list of reason that so many people got murdered in Tuesday's attacks is because the officers aboard the plains gave their first priority to the IMMEDIATE safety of their passengers and their crews. That is undoubtedly what gave the hijackers the edge they needed to take over the plains and do what they did in Washington and New York. In the skies over Pennsylvania someone decided to fight. In each case a lot of people got killed. But if the people in the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania hadn't taken on the hijackers when and where they did, the cost in lives and freedom to the entire Free World would most likely have been a hell of a lot higher. --Jasper
