Miss Marple,
I am not surprised that you saw the same things I did, just as you are probably not surprised that I saw so many of the same things you did.
Both of us were trying to make sense of Fuhrman's book. We were looking for things that were consistent with the evidence and things that weren't. We were looking for consistencies in his character as we came to see it by way of his television appearances, the McKinney tapes, his psychiatric files and the witness who rebutted his claim about not using the n-word. There are consistencies in these portraits of the man that don't stand up in his book. In addition, there are inconsistencies in the book that don't match anything except Fuhrman the obsessive movie student, Fuhrman the play actor, Fuhrman the screenwriter and Fuhrman the Hollywood technical adviser "fixing" the flaws in other people's scripts.
A big problem with the prosecution's dramatic scene were O.J. takes off one BLOODY glove to search for his cap and leaves it there when he flees in panic was the total absence his fingerprints in blood. In the alternate version of the scene where Goldman rips the glove off in a death struggle, you still have a bloody glove on one hand and a bleeding finger on the other. So, how did he get the gate open without leaving blood on the latch? The fingerprint in blood (buried in Fuhrman's notes, is Fuhrman the technical advisor. The story about being "shocked" to learn - many months later - that it hadn't been identified, is Fuhrman the screenwriter.
It is an incredible (as in, not credible) story for all of the reasons you outlined. But there was something else about his account that got my attention….
Fuhrman is forever attributing his negative traits to others. He says things like, "his obsession was…" Her obsession was…" "I am not obsessed." He talks about O.J.'s giant ego, the defense team's use of "smoke and mirrors (Remember The Magic Castle?). And how about this little item on page 231: "During this meeting, Darden went into a tirade, screaming about leaks and promising an Internal Affairs investigation. Why did Chris unleash such an outburst - was he simply protesting too much?" --Jasper
