Not only that, Fuhrman has O.J. first walk all the way up to the front door, to discover that he is bleeding (in the dim light). THEN he enters the dark path, hits Kato's wall three times, remembers he has a master key, enters the house through the maid's entrance.
Why? Well, how else can Fuhrman explain BOTH the thumps and the blood trail.
Stupid? ludicrous? Sure. But a whole lot of people bought it.
