I can't find a thing in your post to disagree with, though you have obviously done more thinking than I have about the infantile core of Fuhrman's personality and the personality flaw in some people that cause them to see him as Mr. Wonderful. You wrote, "There is a great divide between those who see him as a boy scout and those who see a scary monster, between those who see the surface appearance and those who see what's not underneath."
"…those who see what's NOT underneath."
Wow!
Fuhrman did creep me out the first time I saw him on the stand. I couldn't put my finger on it but it was as though something in his words and his demeanor was a tad out of sync even though I knew that wasn't really happening. I thought I was missing something. No, it wasn't me. It was Fuhrman. The heart and soul of a fully developed human being in a civilized society just weren't there.
The guy was close to flawless, hitting exactly the right notes at exactly the right times - except when he got a question he didn't anticipate. I don't think he expected Marcia's question about his 20-minute disappearing act (from Bailey, yes/Marcia, no), or Bailey's question about whether or not he had his gun drawn when he searched the south path. Any normal human being would have had a normal answer ready to go (which is what Marcia expected from him) but Fuhrman stumbled badly both times.
Why did he screw up so monumentally? Because the "right" answer about the highs and lows of the days events didn't come from his "Tin Man" heart and the question about his gun hadn't been programmed into his "Scarecrow" brain. His entire performance on the stand was just that, a performance. When somebody adlibbed, he was lost.
Even a great liar needs some time to prepare.
More about the "nigger" and the "motherfucker" later. For now, I want you to see how Fuhrman noted the n-word (he called it the N-word) and how he suggested to Laura Hart that he would do great violence to anyone who called him a motherfucker (MF). To see what I'm talking about you have to remember that Billie is the name of Mark Fuhrman's mother and Billie Burke is the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz. Remember that Fuhrman talked about finding blood on the BRICKS on O.J.'s driveway.
Now, all you have to do is check out the Fuhrman's Story animation and "follow the yellow brick road." --Jasper
