Athena was the goddess of wisdom and war (don't ask me how both of those things can be true). The wisdom part of her identity is probably where the idea came from that owls were wise. But she also wielded a mean spear and she loved to use it and much as Aries, the god of war, loved to use his.
There is another thing you may want to know about Athena. I don't know whether this will help you with your Owl on a stone wall, but the Parthenon, built on a big pile of rocks (a rocky hill) call the Acropolis is her temple. The word "parthenogenesis" (virgin birth) comes from her. That's why her temple is called the Parthenon. She sprang from the brow of Zeus full grown in battle armor.
The bird most dominant in Nazi symbolism is the same as Imperial Rome and the United States, the eagle See chapter 12 of the Smoking Gun for pictures of Nazi flags featuring birds. I think they are all supposed to be eagles, but you can't be sure by looking at them. --Jasper
