Charlie,
I read the stories.
I was not surprised by the DA's conduct but I was surprised by the fact that it made news.
During the Simpson case, Marcia Clark worked directly with Phil Vannatter to falsify the search warrant for O.J.'s property. You saw that absurd document. There didn't appear to be so much as an attempt to tell the truth or to hide the lies. Even Judge Ito called it "a reckless disregard for the truth." This was a high profile case. Vannatter was an experienced detective. How, then, could he have screwed up so badly?
As you know, I don't think he did.
I think Vannater was shopping for a prosecutor who would do what Marcia did to hide or misrepresent the evidence in O.J.'s favor. She had a reputation among the ranks of LAPD detectives for "fixing" troublesome warrants. She had worked with Vannatter before. A shaky warrant together with Fuhrman's story of visiting Rockingham on a "domestic violence" call were just what he needed to bring her into the case.
The Rockingham blood drops were one example of hiding evidence that Marcia and company pulled off right in front of the live television cameras. The DA's had to know that they led out of the gate rather than going in. She had to know that the angle at which O.J.'s Bronco parked (precisely 2-degrees) was no reason whatsoever to give it a second look. And, despite the extent to which the defense tried to muddle the issue with their theory of the planted glove, the evidence that there were no blood smears inside the Bronco when it was hauled away is overwhelming. The entire domestic violence portion of the case was BS carefully prepared by the prosecutors to misrepresent the truth. This is the stuff they wanted everyone to see.
Getting convictions by any means necessary was the name of the game. If they could do what they did to O.J. in front of the whole continent without a peep of protest from the vast majority of North Americans why should we be surprised at anything they did behind the scenes to a bunch of nobodies? ---Jasper
