It was, indeed, a somewhat cool night in June. However, 64 degrees is hardly the kind of weather where you would expect to see a guy walking around in winter gloves and a ski cap unless he's planning to commit a crime or he's playing a bad guy in a movie. The biggest thing about the ski cap is that when I saw it I was instantly reminded of O.J. as Nordberg sneaking around the docks in The Naked Gun. I have no doubt that millions of people had an easy time associating O.J. with that cap because they had seen him wearing one in the movies that looked just like it.
The prosecution made quite a bit of the many hairs caught in the fabric of the cap that were consistent with a black person's hair. Marcia pointed out the fact that the incriminating hairs were shed naturally. The idea was that they couldn't have been planted in the cap. But the defense produced the woman who took care of O.J.'s hair and she said that O.J. had a seasonal dandruff problem. June was the season. If O.J. had been wearing that cap in June there should have been some dandruff in it. There was none.
In other words, whether it was O.J.'s cap or not and whether or not his hair was lodged in the fibers, he didn't wear it that night. I don't think anyone did. There was simply too much blood around and the cap had zero blood on it. That doesn't mean the killer wasn't wearing something to protect his face. I think Fuhrman got that right in his "misidentification" of the cap. I'm sure that the killer was wearing a ski mask and his partner was carrying the knit cap in a plastic bag. -- Jasper
