Miss Marple raised a point that I hadn't thought of, namely, that if Fuhrman and Roberts were off the case, why Roberts was asked to interview McKinnon.
I wonder if Tom Lange mentioned this witness in his book since he later was asked to interview McKinnon.
Charlie raises a good point about viewing all the problems from the angle of what the cops didn't do.
It seems clear that the only explanation is that early on the authorities knew what happened but could not present the truth. Perhaps some exposure alog those lines would have just exposed too many other major issues and therefore, for the "greater good" decided to cover up what really happened.
That truth could be that one of their own was involved and/or that drug links to the matter would have just been too much to expose.
