I have had my air conditioner on at that temp outside. I am cold natured. It is a fluke of where I live. It can be 60 degrees outside and hot and stuffy inside. My AC does not turn on till till it gets up to about 78 degrees. If I leave the windows open the sprinkler is likely to go on in the middle of the night.The traffic is also a problem. I live in a warm climate and things just work different. Now ther is a possible explanation as to why he had not heard it before. That was an old AC window unit. It may have just gotten to the stage to make the noise. I know what they are talking about. The last place I lived, had a wall unit that was getting nosier all the time. A quick of and on with the electric would do it. I know that mine was much noiser if that happened than if I just turned it on. In a warm climate, you let the thermostate take care of it and don't neccessarily turn it on and off as the weather changes.
