In 1978 a San Clemente, CA police officer named Richard T. Steed, badge # 22 was ambushed in an alley by a deranged man. A February 27, 1995 article in People Magazine says this: “In 1978 a good friend, Richard Steed, was killed by a deranged person while working as a police officer in San Clemente, Calif. Steed's death and the pressures of his own job propelled Fuhrman into a depression.” http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20105164,00.html ................ A July 10, 1985 issue of the Los Angeles Times gives more details of Steed’s shooting death, including the fact that he was shot twice and the man who made the call for medical help that lured Steed to the alley, stabbed himself with a knife. A barking dog led to the discovery of his body. At his funeral, a pair of gloves was laid on top of his coffin. –Jasper
