On second thought, I believe I can answer my own last question.
The defense was swamped with information they had to categorize and prioritize. They had entirely too many leads to follow; most of which proved to be bogus. In Legacy of Deception I believe that Steven Singular quoted Carl Douglas as saying they had twenty five thousand of them.
When Singular approached Douglas and John Pavlic about Fuhrman's reputation for planting evidence, his reputed affair with Nicole and checking the most damning blood evidence for EDTA, they came close to not giving him the time of day. He was lucky to get an interview with anyone on the defense team because of all the false leads they had and the sheer volume of crap they had to respond to from the DA's office.
We know that the defense didn't check Fuhrman's alibi, for one thing or his shoe size for another (if only to determine whether he could have made the bloody size 12 shoeprint in the Bronco carpet - more about that later). These things were at least as important as talking to the old man. Why didn't they do it? They didn't have time. It's a miracle they accomplished as much as they did. --Jasper
