I posted this last week but it got lost in cyberspace.
I watched CSI last week and something in the program struck me.
They had a "random" attack (the woman didn't die but would be a vegetable the rest of her life).
The murder was done--they discovered--by an underaged gang member.
A baseball cap was THROWN DOWN at the scene with the gang logo on it. It was part of an "initiation" for the gang. To "prove" he did the murder for the gang leaders--he throws down the hat to "mark" the scene.
Stupidly, he uses his OWN hat that he was worn and it has his DNA on the sweatband.
It made me consider the knit hat at the Bundy crime scene. The hat always appeared to be "thrown down" and not "lost" no matter how hard the DA's tried to make it that way. Thrown down to "mark" the ID of the killer.
What struck me, is that they nailed this guy on two things. One the hat with his own DNA and a belt loop torn off and found at the scene. He was wearing the jeans with the torn off belt loop when they found him. However, no research was done as to where he was or if he had an alibi or any such thing. His DNA and beltloop were found at the scene but they had not actually located if he had the means or the opportunity to do the crime, etc.
It struck me that in such cases, committing an attack (that was meant to be a murder--she was shot twice in the head) would be easy to "frame" somebody but just taking a hat with the DNA of a certain "likely" person.
Since I believe that show is located in Las Vegas and the gangs --I wondered if this is a common and well-known characteristic of gang initiation murders--probably known to cops.
