Jasper, initially I thought Fuhrman's book was really engrossing but in reality, it should have been at least three times longer. He never dicusses the Skakel gardener, Franz Wittine. Or the avalanche of circumstantial evidence against Littleton. I'd like to read more about serial killer victims in areas that Littleton lived in. Fuhrman does make a great point that the girl who found Martha should be grilled for information on why she was cutting through the yard and whether anyone told her to do so. All of the neighbors are really creepy - they are obviously hiding something. I don't see any way that the murderer could not have been coverd in blood. Each suspect should have been asked what clothes he or she was wearing at different times the night before. It could have been verified in many cases. Then, simply ask for permission to search all of their items of clothing. Anyone who refused, was hesitant, or could not provide the clothing should have then gone to the head of the suspect list. Even if Michael Skakel was guilty, he was 15 at the time. Had he confessed back then, he would have gone to a juvenile facility and most certainly would have been freed many years ago. It is illegal to try him as an adult. Is not confessing to a crime committed as a child once turning adult age a capital crime in Connecticut? Fuhrman says the accusations drove Littleton crazy. This is utter nonsense. The other neighbor (Ed Hammond) didn't go crazy. If you're innocent, why sweat it? You would feel anger for being falsely accused, not paranoia or mental illness. The fact that the state of Connecticut jumped from suspect to suspect (and certainly was close to indictment of both Tommy Skakel and Littleton) should be all the reasonable doubt anyone needs. The shabby investigation ensured that there would alwys be more than one viable suspect. - Paddy
