Mike, …..I got a phone message from Bill Wasz less than 36 hours before he died telling me that he “just climbed out of the pits of hell.” He was arrested on an expired 1994 warrant (he had already been arrested on that warrant and served 10 years in prison) and his lawyer Larry Longo just got him out of jail. We had exchanged e-mails the night before he was arrested and talked on the phone the day before that about the plans we made on the internet (The Peking Duck) to meet face-to face in Detroit on March 11, 1995. .…….. Bill and I started our amicable private correspondence after an acrimonious public start. He insisted that his Kardashian story was true. I knew that it couldn’t be true. I called him a liar and a con man pretending to be less intelligent than he was. In our first phone talk he admitted that he conned the people who thought he was taking the high road in responding to me when I claimed that he attacked me first in a covert/aggressive way – another con job. We talked for a long time with him pulling a con job on me at the start that almost worked. He laughed when I finally caught on and called him on it. ……… Bill was arrested on the 8th of March and released on the 9th pending a court hearing on the 10th. He told me what happened in a phone call on the 9th. The call was interrupted. He said it was his lawyer telling him that Fuhrman was behind his arrest (High Points/ Smartfellows Press March 2005 Phone Bill). He was shaken by the news and told me that he would call me back to let me know more about Fuhrman’s part in his arrest and how his court hearing turned out. I didn’t hear from him until the 12th when he left his “pits of hell” message. I knew he wanted to stall our meeting, but not that way. ……….Although he lied to about many things, one thing came through loud and clear. There was nothing malicious in any of it. Furthermore, we suspected that our phone talks were monitored and whoever was doing it wanted us to know so he would not speak freely. He told me many stories that had nothing to do with O.J. Some of them only sounded like lies (I later learned that they were true) but some of them had to be lies because he kept adding things to them until the lies became totally transparent. Slowly I saw what looked like a pattern. I couldn’t confirm it until I talked to people who knew him well and found the key in his book We Only Kill Our Friends. I knew then that he expected me to read it (which is why I think he wanted to stall our meeting) and figure out the code to distinguish when he was lying and when he wasn’t. His body was found one day before his book came from the printer. An anonymous source sent me a copy. ………Bill Wasz truly believed that Kardashian was behind a January murder-for-hire-plot against Nicole and setting him up to take the fall. He knew Fuhrman only by what he learned from the media and heard from guards and administrators in prison. He believed that ALL racists were stupid and Fuhrman’s racism disqualified him from being capable of framing O.J. He knew that I knew his Kardashian story was bullshit. But until four days before he died he believed that O.J. was guilty for the same reasons most people did. ……….You can see what’s wrong with “O.J.’s motive” but Bill Wasz died before he had a chance to. If he had lived only a few days longer, I’m sure he would have. –Jasper
