His name is actually Tom Nolan, another homicide detective from West LA. He was the one who, in 1997, backed Fuhrman and Robert's claim as having seen the bloody finerprint on the back gate. You will recall that Jasper mentions Nolan briefly in his book, restating Phillips' claim that he had phoned Nolan before Roberts. In an interview with Reuters in 1997, Nolan had to remind Roberts that he too had seen the print. Nolan also mentions that he was only "at the scene" for one day and then went packing to Det. school. Since, as Jasper mentions, Fuhrman almost claimed that Nolan was his partner and this partner backed Fuhrman, I wonder why he was taken off the case after only one day, while the mysterious Roberts stayed. A lie. The defense never caught on, even when Phillips said point blank that Fuhrman was not his partner. Phillips and Fuhrman were mentioned together repeatedly, they behaved as though they were partners and Vannatter and Lange behaved as though Phillips and Fuhrman were partners. Nolan was actually the last person Phillips called after he claimed other detectives where not available. He called Fuhrman first then made quite a production out of mentioning Roberts as though he was a freelance detective who was going to be partnered for the investigation with Tom Nolan. In Iago I wrote that Roberts and Nolan never hooked up because I couldn't find another mention of Nolan anywhere and the ABC tape of Fuhrman at Rockingham showed him getting in and out of a car with Roberts. The name of the game with all of the detectives who went to Rockingham to "give notice to O.J." that his ex had been murdered, was to hide Roberts as much as possible and to confuse the issue as much as possible about who Fuhrman's partner was. Now we know that Roberts WAS with Nolan for a while when Vannatter says he sent them to question Schwab. But since Nolan was a trainee, Roberts had to be in charge. Wouldn't it be nice to know when Fuhrman and Roberts got back together at Rockingham? Thanks for the new information on Nolan. Clark writes that it was five in the morning and Fuhrman for some reason (and there is always a reason) claims that Phillips sent them there sometime after three, while they were still waiting for the detectives to arrive. I will try to find that reference for you. Perhaps he got his own vehicle when he went back to the station to interview that witness.
