Miss Marple, …. This was one of many issues raised in the O.J. case where we found Fuhrman when we weren’t looking for him. I believe that we were trying to see how the story of Ron Goldman arriving at Bundy when he did to give Juditha’s glasses to Nicole compared to other evidence. It seemed that the story clashed with Nicole putting the kids to bed so early, having romantic music on the stereo and having lit candles around her bathtub. The question was whether the bathtub was full or empty. ……………. The bathtub being full clashed with the return of the glasses story because it suggested that Nicole was planning a romantic encounter and that was the real purpose of Ron’s visit. An empty bathtub suggested that Nicole had no intimate plans for the night, which gave more weight to Stewart Tanner’s claim that he and Ron were planning to meet at a bar in Marina Del Ray. We weren’t sure whether “the police” said the bathtub was full or empty. We had the impression that “they” said both, so we checked the transcripts for a definitive answer. That’s not what we got. …………… Just as we recalled, Officer Robert Riske did say that the bathtub was full when he arrived on the scene. However, Det. Phillips said it was empty when he got there about an hour later. The question then became, what happened to the water? I think that is where you wrote, “I smell Fuhrman.” …………… We had to go through the testimony of every cop who was in the bathroom after Riske made his observation to figure out when the water disappeared. Then we had to go back to Riske’s testimony to see who could have drained the tub. This is the order in which the police testified about water in the bathtub: · Off. Robert Riske, LAPD 2/9 and 2/14 · Det. Ronald Phillips, LAPD 2/15 - 2/17 · Det. Tom Lange, LAPD 2/17, 2/21 - 2/22 and 3/6 - 3/9 · Det. Mark Fuhrman, LAPD 3/9 - 3/10 and 3/13 - 3/16 …………. The surprise here was that Riske said the tub was full when he brought Phillips and Fuhrman into the bathroom. Phillips and Fuhrman testified that tub was empty. Phillips gave Lange the tour and Lange testified that the tub was empty. We know that Phillips and Fuhrman lied in the preliminary hearing about being partners (Riske thought that they were partners). We know that both of them did some fancy footwork to hide Brad Roberts in their scenario of Fuhrman finding the glove and “going back” to Bundy to compare it to the one in Fuhrman’s pointing finger photo. We also know that Fuhrman and Phillips split up before Riske completed his tour with them because Riske and Fuhrman went into the kitchen without Phillips. ……….. Did Phillips lie about the tub being empty in anticipation of what Fuhrman was going to testify to? I think he did. –Jasper
