The expertise and the inside information that you and Bill could bring to Iago was never in doubt. That is not the issue that divides us. ………Regular posters on this board went to the Peking Duck at Richard’s invitation. We thought that we could get solid information from both of you because of your expertise, your inside information and your apparent openness to our queries about the O.J. case. We thought that you would give us direct answers when possible to questions that were important to us. Instead, we got assumptions from you about our motives, our expertise and our competence to ask pertinent questions. We got answers to your assumptions and kind, patient lectures on what was important to you. ……You’re doing it again. …..Item: Rose asked you an intelligent question based upon her available information. You gave her the information required to answer her question but you put it in a context that suggested her question was silly – information she didn’t have until you supplied it. …..Item: I spent nearly an hour trying to devise a polite, concise way of letting you know that nobody here expects police to reveal every important detail in an ongoing homicide investigation. I eventually erased the word “homicide” to avoid a predictably kind, patent lecture from you on the difference between a murder investigation and the investigation of a suspicious death. You said that he sent you some e-mails. You didn’t say whether they were sent before or after he made his last call to me. Even if the e-mails came later, they didn’t necessarily come from him – just his computer. His last phone call to me had to have come from him. ……..Our efforts to meet in Detroit are recorded on the Peking Duck and on this page as they happened. On Saturday March 5 we set the date for Friday, March 11 pending the permission he expected to get from his parole officer on Monday. That Monday he called to tell me that he waited all day for his parole officer to show up but he never did. We talked for hours. Within ten minutes we were talking like old friends – although I still said he was a con-man and a liar. ……. On Wednesday he called me to say he gotten pulled over by the police and had to appear in court the next morning because of an outstanding warrant that made no sense. We had to postpone our meeting until his legal issues were resolved. He said that he would call me after his Thursday morning court appearance. I didn’t hear from him again until he left his phone message on Saturday, March 12 at 4:38 p.m. California time. You know more than I do about what happened next. You just have more confidence than I do in the way investigative journalists and homicide cops operate with a potential killer who knows how you operate. ……...I know better than you can appreciate how uncommon Bill Wasz was and why I liked him so much although I never trusted him. By the end of our fist conversation I was sure that he trusted me. This is what we have to discuss in private. ………I don’t know where you got the idea that I am “arbitrarily dismissing the character and motives” of anybody. As you said, I don’t know these people. I know nothing of their character or motives. I know only what they did and didn’t do on the record and that record makes me wary of them. There is nothing arbitrary about it – unless you consider Mario’s life and mine arbitrary considerations. –Jasper
