Thanks, Jasper for your vote :). I'm too old to run, but not too old to think! And hopefully, we can all continue to do just that, perhaps even make a difference. Thanks, too to Sol for that wonderful piece on the Didion/Dunne relationship. No, I did not know of 'Dominic' connection. I knew she has written a new book on the loss of her husband of 40 years. I have read much of her work, both fiction and nonfiction. She is an icon in American letters. To open any of her books, IMO, is an opportunity to revel in the beauty of the English language, as well as an engagement with a laser-sharp, yet compassionate mind. The woman sees and she has the abililty to project her vision in the most concrete, yet poetic prose...a true master of modern style. This thread has been a joy to explore; that's what it's all about, isn't it? Jean, your observations are clear and allow some interesting perspectives. Of course, Jasper is our resident philosopher/scientist. Quite a group! marilyn
