Psychologists are not allowed to prescribe drugs in any way shape or form. Even a Psychiatrist would raise some eyebrows for the meds I take as they are not psych drugs but pain drugs. With all the tranference going on between a patient and a therapist to have three or for telling you to do different things you can end up sicker than when you began not to mention that it is as if you are cheating on someone. I have been told by all but one therapist I have ever seen that to go to another therapist without first firing them or leaving them I should say, that it wouldn't be ethical for the second or third to knowingly allow this. It is a sick practice for one person to go out and seek treatment from more then one therapist. I have always been honest on my road back once they found my back was so messed up that I was in true agony. Following the rules is how I have survived however I do push the envelope and it pisses off people. I work systems sometimes better then those who created the rules of the system. This really pisses them off. It may not be law, however, it is truly unethical for one therapist to take on a patient when that therapist has awareness that the patient is already in treatment. Like a doctor, what one is told to do and not told to do can be countermanded by the other therapist which shows and mommy/daddy transference situation. I have always been up front when leaving one therapist to go to another. Of course I am in Chronic Pain and so my treatment is different. Now, a Psychologist like mine might send a patient to a MFCC for two to three sessions of cognitive therapy or behavorial therapy, but it is always under her direction within her own group of doctors. Any patient caught with more than one therapist without the knowledge and guidance of the main Psychologist or therapist will end up with no therapist who will treat him/her. The reason is that a patient who does this is very very dangerous. Either to her/him self or others.
