I think what really happened is that the prosecution did not think that Garvey or Denise where going to be asked the question or would give those answers. They where so into painting OJ as being a monster, they missed the time element. Just like they missed that blood drops going from Rockingham to the fround door, meant that OJ did not jump the fense.
