Charlie,
The Asian hair throws me, too. We now hear that one of the boys was black and the other was white but we don’t know what they look like. “Race” typing by hair isn’t 100 percent accurate. Some people considered black can have head hair that has the general characteristics of Caucasians or Asians. Some people who are considered white can have head hair the looks Asian or Negroid under a microscope. Depending on which part of the head different hairs came from you can’t always tell if they belong on the same head.
I think that you and I are stuck at the same point. The sequence of events in the two or three attacks doesn’t match the timeframe. You’ve got twenty or thirty minutes between the initial assault and the stab wound to Martha’s throat (face up). You have her pants pulled down where her body was found (face down) under the pine tree but no indication that she was raped. You have a man claiming that he was in the aria with two friends, that the friends told him they were going to attack a girl ‘caveman style” and later told him that they committed the murder. We have witnesses who put them in the area.
Yet, we have no more physical evidence that they did it than we have against Michel and the appearance of a deliberate attempt to implicate one of the Skakel boys in the killing. Are we supposed to believe that the killer left the head of the six-iron behind by accident and the matching club in the house was simply overlooked by the killer or someone trying to cover up for him? What happened to the other clubs?
At this point it sure looks like the Bronx kids were involved in some way (why would Bryant lie about his friends)? But if they were high and feeling vicious enough for one of them to hit Martha in the head with a golf club, doesn’t their failure to follow through with dragging her by the hair and raping her and the delay in the stabbing would suggest something else? Doesn’t it suggest that they were stunned by the enormity of what they had done and planned to do and ran away?
Either one (or both) of them came back or somebody else took over where they left off. At this point I can’t see another way around it – if they were indeed involved. –Jasper
