I think you are right about the ties made from African cloth. Quite a fashion statement. If i remember correctly it had something to do with that the prosecution team and all family members were wearing angel pins.
I liked the joke from someone on the defence team who suggested that they all show up one morning dressed like Michael Jackson - one glove and too short pants. This was after the testimony of the blood stain high on the ankle of the sock.
